The little things

Boy what I wouldn't give for a shower that i didn't have to turn the water on and off just to conserve my "15 gallons of water" a day. The chow hall is about a 1 mile walk from my tent but it feels like 10 after PT (physical training) in the morning. I have come to the realization that the dust in this country knows no bounds and will get everywhere you don't want it no matter how many times you sweep or clean. I must have let it slip my mind on all the things I took for granted back home, for example I would love to have a washer and dryer, the laundry service that they provide here makes your clothes smell like they could spontaneously combust at any moment, I think it's kerosene but who knows. Well, all ya'll back home drink a beer, wash some clothes, take a long shower and walk to the kitchen and get something to eat for me will ya. I hope all is well and this finds everyone in good spirits.

until next time, Brian

Oh Brian, I'm sorry. I had just sat down to my computer this morning with my breakfast thinking, "boy, I'm tired today." But then I thought that I'm sure you are more tired and in a different way and then I started thinking about all the little luxuries I have here that I just "expect." I think it would do us all good to live like you're living for a while. I'm not as strong as you are, that's for sure. I hope you know that even though we get busy with our day, you are always there on our minds and whenever God brings you to the forefront of my mind, I pray for you. I try to imagine what you are doing at that moment and pray for your safety, well-being (both physically and mentally) and for Megan and Parker. Love, Erin

Hi, Brian. If you see Harry Reid over there, be sure and put him walking point (on the shoulder, not in the road) for any convoys, and make sure he doesn't get any ammo! We miss you both! Our porch light will always be on for you and look forward to the time you return so you can visit and can not only go to the kitchen, but grab a beer, a steak, or whatever else you want. We can't promise no dust though! You take care. We're praying for you.

Hey, it's me, Mom...I finally got signed up so I can post comments. Yes, it is not easy to take showers or wash clothes or get something out of the fridge w/o thinking, "I wish Brian could do this, too."
I pray things will improve for you all very soon.
In church, today, this scripture was read: "The secret things (of God) belong to God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever." Deut. 29:29
We also read where man is born to trouble, and God wounds, but he also binds up. If you can locate a Bible, read Job 5:6-27--very powerful and fitting for what you are going through.
You boys keep looking up and draw from each other's strengths. At least, you don't have to go through this all by yourselves, right?
Love, as always, Mom
